Teran Wine & Walk

The most talked about event that everyone's looking forward to!

...in all the colours of wine
We invite all wine and nature enthusiasts to mark October 5 on their calendars and register for the Teran Wine & Walk adventure through Motovun. Get ready for an inspiring walk and meet superb Istrian winemakers, local producers and caterers at tasting stops.

Itinerary:

The 12 km long itinerary weaves almost entirely through vineyards offering stunning views of Motovun, the most picturesque medieval town in Istria famous for its excellent wines. The start and finish of the walk is the magnificent Roxanich Winery & Design Hotel, whose impressive wine cellar spans over five underground floors. From there, the itinerary leads to the famous Parenzana, once a 123-kilometre-long narrow-gauge railway linking Trieste and Poreč, and now one of the most popular bike & trail routes in this part of Europe. A special highlight of the itinerary will be passing through the Motovun tunnel (222 m), the longest on the route. The Parenzana also features the first Wine & Walk stop, while the lookout along the route offers a beautiful panorama of Motovun and the Mirna valley.
Leaving the Parenzana, we follow gorgeous little vineyard trails up to the village of Bataji, home to the Fakin winery – our second stop, and one of Croatia’s most awarded wineries. We continue our wine journey to the hilltop of Monte Šandrin – the third stop, offering one of the most beautiful views of Motovun. Next, we head down to the town of Brkač, which has been inhabited since prehistoric times as testified by numerous archaeological finds. In ancient times, on the site of Brkač there was a villa rustica where building ceramics, roofing bricks and roof tiles were made. The trail passes by the church of St. Pancras from 1942, which was built on the site of an older church from the 15th century. A Glagolitic inscription ‘1602. Pop Luka’ is still present in the church of St Pancras, which proves that the parish used to be Glagolitic, and that the liturgy was held in the Old Church Slavonic language.
From Brkač we return to the Parenzana and slowly reach the village of Rodeli, where the fifth stop awaits us, the Fachin winery. From Rodeli, the path to the top of the Šublenta hill leads through woodlands with a view of Karojba in the distance. The fifth stop is at the top of Šublenta, towered above by the Church of the Nativity of Mary, built in the 17th century on the site of a former Benedictine abbey. In the 6th and 7th centuries, during the Old Croatian settlement period, this was the site of their pagan sanctuary. Before that, and before the arrival of the Romans, there used to be an Illyrian fort – a circular settlement protected by walls. A significant quantity of prehistoric pottery and the remains of a small ancient building, fragments of Roman pottery and several pieces of Late Antique pottery have been found at Šublenta. Today, the church is surrounded by vineyards and several centuries-old oak trees. From there, the path leads to Motovun and the Tomaz winery, which represents the sixth stop. After this stop, we return to our starting point – the Roxanich winery, where the seventh and final refreshment station is located, and the party continues with a DJ!
