In 2023, the Istria Gran Fondo became an officially recognized event under the leadership of the UCI-World Cycling Organization. This means that this popular cycling event is held in accordance with the standards and rules of the UCI and will attract an even greater number of cyclists and lovers of this sport to the region of Istria. Participants will be able to enjoy the nature of Istria and its beautiful landscapes while competing in different categories and race lengths. Get ready for another unforgettable Istria Gran Fondo in 2025.

This is a series of competitions held worldwide across five continents, culminating in the UCI Gran Fondo Series World Championships, which will take place from October 16 to 19, 2025, in Lorne, Australia. The results achieved in the main event of the Istria Gran Fondo race will also count in the overall ranking of the cyclists competing for their place among the elite at the World Championships in Denmark. Thus, the best cyclists - 25% in their age group participating in the Istria Gran Fondo race will get the opportunity and the right to fight for the title of world champion.

The age categories of the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are: 19-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, Etc…

Age groups applicable to the UCI Gran Fondo World Series are defined by the rider’s age on December 31st of the year of the qualifier event. Age groups applicable to the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships are defined by the riders’ age on December 31st of the year of the World Championships.

In addition to the main race split in two categories (Gran Fondo and Medio Fondo), participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at Time Trial. The individual Time Trial will take place on Friday, 11 April.

If you are up for a real challenge, choose between the two routes for the bold and physically fit riders – 87 km long route of Istria Medio Fondo and 112 km long route of Istria Gran Fondo. Both will take place on Saturday, 12 April 2025, in Umag. They pass through the northwestern and central parts of the Istrian peninsula, and return to Umag. In order to catch your breath on the way, we have prepared 4 refreshment stops. Both races start and finish in the beautiful Stella Maris Resort, just next to the Goran Ivanišević ATP stadium in Umag.
