The second edition of NOVA Eroica Istria returns in May 2026 with three carefully designed gravel routes and a rich gourmet programme, set within a two-day cycling festival immersed in the authentic landscape of north-western Istria.

In spring 2026, NOVA Eroica Istria once again brings together sport, scenery and local culture in a region widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in Europe. Following the highly successful debut edition held in September 2025, the event moves to a new date – 1 and 2 May 2026. Istrian white roads, historic routes and distinctive gastronomy form the backbone of the festival, elements that have already positioned NOVA Eroica Istria among the most exciting gravel events on the European scene.

Saturday, 2 May, is the main festival day, dedicated to riding three thoughtfully curated gravel routes that combine physical challenge, natural diversity and rich cultural heritage. More than 80% of the routes run on white roads, faithfully preserving the original Eroica spirit and ensuring an authentic gravel experience, while also highlighting Istrian gastronomy through well-curated refreshment stations featuring local delicacies.
TRUFFLES ROUTE (150 km) The longest and most demanding route is designed for experienced riders seeking a deep immersion into Istria’s wild interior. It passes through iconic locations such as Motovun, Livade and Oprtalj – landscapes shaped by truffles, vineyards and a strong medieval identity.
TERAN ROUTE (100 km) An ideal choice for those looking to balance sporting challenge with pure riding pleasure. Rolling hills, vineyard-covered slopes and historic Istrian hill towns create a complete gravel experience in the region’s signature scenery.
MALVASIA ROUTE (60 km) A shorter, technically accessible version of the Teran route, intended for riders new to gravel cycling or those who prefer a more relaxed pace combined with open views and picturesque sections.
All three routes highlight Istria’s core values: diverse landscapes, authentic places and a deeply rooted gastronomic tradition.
Cycling through history: Parenzana, flavours and Istrian hill towns - Sections of the routes follow the legendary Parenzana, the former railway line and today Istria’s most famous cycling trail. Along the way, riders encounter gourmet stations featuring local delicacies – from truffles, extra virgin olive oils, cheeses and prosciutto to top-quality Istrian wines renowned far beyond the region. The routes pass through charming towns such as Grožnjan, Buje and Motovun, whose stone streets, viewpoints and historic atmosphere offer perfect moments for rest and unforgettable memories.
Friday, 1 May The opening day of the festival is conceived as a separate programme segment, designed for recreational cyclists, families and all those who cherish the aesthetics and values of cycling’s golden age:
Vintage Tour – for participants riding vintage bicycles, embracing classic equipment and style inspired by early road cycling
Eroica Family Bike Tour – an easy, safe and technically simple route suitable for all generations
Ciclo Club Eroica Tour – a gourmet ride for club members, including visits to local farms, vineyards and Istrian villages
The start and finish of all rides are set in Novigrad, which becomes the beating heart of the gravel community during the festival. Through its EXPO zone, producer presentations, tastings, talks and music programme, the town blends sport, culture and gastronomy into a vibrant international festival atmosphere, welcoming cyclists from all over the world.
