The sacred heritage of Grožnjan: a journey through centuries of art

Church of Saints Vitus, Modestus and Crescentia
The largest and most significant religious building in Grožnjan is definitely the parish church of St. Vitus, Modestus and Crescentia. This impressive Baroque church was built on the site of an older, medieval church, and was reconstructed in the Baroque style in 1770. The interior is adorned with a rich Baroque altar and valuable religious paintings, and the imposing bell tower is dominant in the view of the town.

Church of St Nicholas
Located in the Grožnjan cemetery, the church of St. Nicholas is modest in appearance, but has an important historical role. This small church was built in the 19th century, and the chapel and passage way are decorated with impressive frescoes and an old sculpture, thus paying homage to life after death.

In addition to the larger churches, Grožnjan is full of small chapels that once served as places of prayer for travellers and locals. Among them, the Church of St. Cosmas and Damian stands out, located at the entrance to the town.
