Olive oil is the elixir of the Mediterranean. It means the life and love the olive growers of northwestern
Istria have been offering their olive trees for centuries, which in turn thank them with the rich harvests that even today provide some of the best olive oils in the region and the world.
Food with olive oil
Every fool knows that food cooked with or fried in olive oil has the best flavour, but if you add a few drops of olive oil just before you've finished cooking or right before serving a dish, it will be even more pleasing to the palate. Make sure the olive oil doesn't smoke in your pan, because it loses its flavour and nutritional value, and that's – put mildly – a shame. Olive oil goes wonderfully with fish, meat, vegetables, soups, stews, salads, sauces, and boiled or baked dishes.
Beauty comes from olive oil
Our ancestors have always used olive oil for skin care and beauty from head to toe, which is no surprise considering that olive oil is rich in anti-oxidants and vitamins A, D, E and K, which are well known for their ability to keep your skin healthy, smooth and wrinkle-free. It's great for use as an after-sun skin treatment, as well as to ease the symptoms of psoriasis or eczema. Apply a thin layer to your face or body and remove the excess by dabbing your skin with a towel.
Health loves olive oil
Fats can be bad for our health, but not olive oil. It has been scientifically proven – and all will agree – that olive oil, especially extra virgin oil, is great for our health.
Omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fats in olive oil reduce inflammatory processes in the body, while antioxidants, vitamins E and K, in addition to their anti-inflammatory properties, help maintain healthy blood cholesterol levels, thus protecting us from heart disease. Some studies have shown that consuming olive oil doesn't lead to weight gain, instead helping to keep your waist size under control.
