Forum Tomizza was established as a locus cooperandi, a multicultural and multilingual project aimed at exploring, encouraging, and realizing social and cultural dialogue within the broader, transnational Slovene-Romance-German border region.
One of the guiding principles of these gatherings, initiated in 2000 in Umag by the Istrian writer and translator Milan Rakovac, is the connection and ongoing communication between intellectuals and artists living on the border and active in the fields of culture, science, and media. Symbolically, the forum draws upon the name and legacy of Fulvio Tomizza, a writer whose artistic and human breadth holds equal importance for all ethnic communities of the northern Adriatic.
Forum Tomizza has set itself the task of examining the spirit of the times in the context of current social issues, assessing the role of the intellectual-creative individual in promoting moral and ethical values, responding critically and polemically to social deviations, and tirelessly transcending all kinds of boundaries.
The symposium and accompanying program of this year’s 26th Forum Tomizza is dedicated to the theme: IN PRAISE OF FOLLY / ELOGIO DELLA FOLLIA / HVALNICA NOROSTI.
