The 21st edition of the popular Ex Tempore painting contest, set to once again attract artists captivated by the photogenic charm of Novigrad - Cittanova, will take place on Friday, June 6th, as part of the celebrations marking the 40th anniversary of the renowned Transadriatica regatta, which for decades has connected Novigrad with Venice. This year, artists are challenged to capture the spirit of the Transadriatica regatta itself, portraying themes inspired by sailing boats, the sea, and people whose lives revolve around this prestigious sport.
Participants will compete for three attractive cash prizes: the third-best artwork will earn €500, the runner-up will receive €700, and the winner, selected by a panel of three judges, will be awarded an impressive €1,000. The winning pieces will be chosen by three representatives from the Venetian port Diporto Velico, and the awarded paintings will subsequently be presented to the participants of the regatta.
This vibrant competition, where artists are required to create their paintings on the spot and complete them within the same day, will be held in the picturesque Park of Novigrad’s Diocese. The new location offers breathtaking views of the sea dotted with sailing boats arriving from Italy, promising an inspirational backdrop for numerous local and international artists. Contestants will stamp their canvases between 10 AM and 11 AM, after which their completed artworks will be displayed until 6 PM. At 7 PM, the winners of the valuable cash prizes, generously sponsored for this event, will be announced. Until the award ceremony and the official announcement of the winners, all Ex Tempore artworks will be exhibited in the park, providing visitors ample opportunity to view these captivating creations.
Following the prize-giving ceremony in the Park of Novigrad’s Diocese, celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Transadriatica regatta will continue in the nearby Veliki trg square, with lively entertainment and delicious local cuisine. All contest participants are warmly invited to join this festive occasion.
