Top events in Grožnjan

As one of the region’s major painting contests and cultural events, Ex tempore has been gathering painters and art lovers in Grožnjan ever since 1994. It takes place on the last weekend of September every year, when you can see artists from all over the world painting in various town locations. The programme starts on Thursday, with canvas stamping, and ends with an award ceremony on Sunday. In-between, visitors can enjoy a whole array of amenities, such as sports activities, exhibitions and concerts, and taste delicious local produce. 

The international festival Jazz is back BP is a highlight of each summer in Grožnjan. The impressive programme created and hosted for years by Croatia’s legendary jazzer Boško Petrović, features performances by the world’s biggest jazz stars, and by attendees of the Summer Jazz School in Grožnjan. Concerts take place on the popular Balwan City summer stage and are accompanied by the tasting of superb Istrian wines in the magical setting of Grožnjan. 

The Fonticus town gallery organises solo exhibitions and visual art projects throughout the year, with the aim of presenting modern works of local and foreign authors. It also offers special programmes, such as guest visits by the Grožnjan Visual Artists’ Circle or an exhibition of works of art belonging to the impressive Visual Arts Holdings of Grožnjan, and hosts art colonies.
