Northwestern Istria-Top tennis destination

As the host of a prestigious ATP tournament and region with excellent sports infrastructure, North-western Istria is considered to be a renowned tennis destination in the European context. Easily accessible from at least 10 countries, it has been attracting tennis professionals and amateurs from Croatia and abroad for decades with its favourable climate and organizational experience.

The tennis infrastructure of Northwestern Istria includes over 85 mostly clay courses in the tourist resorts of Umag and Novigrad. They are situated on the seashore, nearby quality hotels, surrounded with vegetation and harmoniously blended into the environment. Owing to its mild Mediterranean climate, playing is possible for the most of the year, from March to November.

The heart of our rich infrastructure is the glamourous, 3,500-seat Goran Ivanišević ATP Stadium – the central point of the Stella Maris tennis complex and one of the best-known sports facilities in Croatia. Umag Croatia Open, a world-class sporting and social event, has been held here for more than 27 years in a row.

North-western Istria hosts many international tournaments. This years’ world championship for veterans and futures tournaments to name a few, organized in cooperation with the ITF and the national tennis association.

In the tennis academy, young talents develop under the watchful eye of experienced coaches. The academy includes tennis schools and camps for different age-groups and uses contemporary training methods in all elements of the play, with special programs created for the youngest children, taking into account the pedagogical aspect of tennis education.

The winning combination of its Mediterranean climate and amenities built with tennis players in mind makes northwestern Istria a special place in the world of tennis.
