The event dedicated to the forest’s autumn delicacy — the mushroom — is one of the largest autumn festivals in Northwestern Istria.
At the end of October, Brtonigla once again celebrates the forest’s autumn treasure — the mushroom, with one of the largest seasonal events in northwestern Istria. This year’s edition will take place on October 25 and 26 at St. Zenon Square.

This two-day, engaging and educational event is designed for all mushroom, nature, and outdoor enthusiasts, aiming to deepen understanding of mycology and raise awareness about the importance of conservation, responsible foraging, and identifying various mushroom species.
Saturday features a workshop on medicinal herbs, their therapeutic properties, and practical uses, led by Dr. Snježana Bilić. The lecture will be held at the Tourist Board premises, Mlinska Street 2. Participation is free and no registration is required.
Saturday morning is reserved for a forest excursion and a mushroom picking competition, with awards for the largest and most beautiful mushroom. The afternoon brings social gathering and live music by “Malvazija Band.”
Sunday highlights a cooking competition between mushroom associations and mayors from Northwestern Istria, with tastings of mushroom-based dishes and entertainment featuring the choir of the Italian Community from Lovrečica/Babići and music by “Alfa Time Band.”
Throughout the weekend, guests will have the opportunity to visit the mycological exhibition and buy local products such as extra virgin olive oil, wine, honey, mushrooms, chestnuts and many other autumn products. In addition to all the listed activities, visitors will also be able to enjoy the sweet creations of local pastry chefs.
The traditional event is organized by the „Boletus“ Mycological Association, in collaboration with the Tourist Board and the municipality of Brtonigla.
