Sapori di Mare – A Two-Day Celebration of Fishing Tradition in Karigador

On July 3 and 4, Karigador will once again become a vibrant meeting place for great food, music and seaside gatherings during the traditional Sapori di Mare festival. This beloved two-day event celebrates Istria’s rich maritime heritage, authentic local flavours and the sense of community that has brought together residents and visitors for decades.

Set on the picturesque fishing pier, surrounded by the scents of the sea and the atmosphere of summer, visitors will enjoy a wide selection of seafood specialties prepared using traditional recipes. The menu will feature mussels alla busara, sardines, squid, grilled fish, octopus salad, scallops and many other Adriatic delicacies, accompanied by local wines and Istrian specialties.

Friday will feature a cooking competition dedicated to mussels alla busara, one of the most iconic dishes of Istrian fishing tradition, followed by an evening concert by the Goran Griff Band. Saturday is dedicated to families and children, who can take part in a kite-making workshop, while visitors can also enjoy a traditional briškula and trešeta card tournament. The evening will conclude with a live performance by Le Monde, whose energetic repertoire will keep the audience dancing by the sea.

Sapori di Mare is one of the few traditional fishing festivals that has preserved its authentic character, celebrating local gastronomy, fishing heritage and the coastal way of life. With its long-standing tradition, unique atmosphere and diverse programme, it has become an essential summer event on the north-western coast of Istria.
