The residents of Brtonigla have been involved in agriculture since time immemorial and are used to buying seasonal fruit and vegetables from their neighbours or local growers. By purchasing fresh, locally sourced produce, locals and visitors contribute not only to the local production and organic farming, but also to the reduction of pollution caused by transport.
What to buy
The choice depends on the season. In spring you can purchase radishes, spinach, potatoes, various types of salad, strawberries, and cherries. In summer you’ll find tomatoes, courgettes, peppers, cucumbers, melons, watermelons, nectarines, and figs. Autumn season brings pumpkins, beets, apples, and grapes, while cabbage, kale and broccoli are popular in winter. Brtonigla is also known for its award-winning winemakers and olive oil producers, including the Veralda winery, which produces both organic wine and olive oil.
